On
January 11, 2005, MEIN announced an eBay
auction for a Melissa
Etheridge Autographed Guitar & Olivia Cruise which included a meet and
greet with Melissa.
On January 21, 2005, literally in the last
seconds, Barbara won the auction! :-) During the cruise, Olivia hosted
a reception for MEIN members, and Barbara told us about meeting
Melissa. She also kindly shares her story here with the fans.
Thank you Barbara, and I'm REALLY HAPPY your dream became a reality! :-)
Meeting Melissa was a
beautiful dream! I told my daughters over the years that I would meet
her someday. And after 18 years of listening to her heart and
soul whisper truths in her writing, and then pound those
truths out with her heart all over the stage, I finally got
to meet this talented and determined woman whom every fan would
give up a lot for in order to spend a moment speaking
with her.
She seemed gentle yet
electric. We talked about a picture I had of her from a World Series
game in Phoenix, and we also spoke about breast cancer foundations. My
good friend is also going through the trauma of breast cancer treatments.
Although life brings each one of us pain and sadness at times, I
am just very thankful that we have Melissa in the music business to help
comfort us one song at a time. All we have is the moment and each music moment
she gives us is precious.
