since we rushed right at the beginning of the show, i neglected to
check my cell phone for the start time so it might be off by a minute or 2.
when she started Giant but she wasn't on stage yet, i figured she'd
enter from the back of the theatre. but she pulled a fast one on us and entered from the front side door. there were stairs on the front side that she ascended that i missed while milling around talking to friends before the show.
we rushed right up when she entered, but security tried to send us
back. but since they really weren't being very hard core about it, we went up again and stayed for the duration of the show. i was pretty surprised that they let us stay because i've seen security at other venues sweep through and send everyone back to their seats one-by-one.
anyway, i don't know if it's because we were at the stage all night or what, but the band seemed especially jamming last night. MLE fed off the energy of the crowd and just blew the doors and the roof off the place.
during her intro to I Need to Wake Up, MLE made Mark show everyone his t-shirt. it was a white t-shirt with a big, B&W photo of Al Gore pointing his finger which was inscribed with "Give 'Em Hell, Al!" in red lettering (i believe). oooh, i want one!
during Tuesday Morning, MLE added "except in Massachusetts!" to the
lyric "though he could not marry" - the place went nuts!
another one of my favorite memories has been to watch the crowd's
reaction to Piece of My Heart. when the crowd recognizes the song, there's always a huge reaction. but when she unleashes the infamous scream, the crowd just goes absolutely bat shit. i always turn around to check out the audience's reaction and it never fails to make me smile.
Must Be Crazy for Me was great fun. i'm not sure why she isn't
including it more in the electric slot before BMSW. she included the drum portion when the entire band goes behind Fritz and drum on his kit. but the "get real low, get real crazy" portion was sadly absent.
MLE fell to her knees twice last night once during Enough of Me and
again near the end of LTWID. she's been falling to her knees consistently in EOM but the one in LTWID has been pretty rare (i've only seen her do it a couple of times all tour). when she got up from LTWID, she exhaled from exhaustion. even Philip was stunned by her intensity.
there was a half-hearted stage jumper in a black cocktail dress near
the end of LTWID who entered from the stairs near the end of LTWID but venue security stopped her before she got very far.
excellent show! onto night 2...rock on, New England...
