Melissa is a wonderful "fan person" (you know... like "people person" but with fans ;-) She has a wonderful gift for making fans feel special. I absolutely love that about her. And I think Shelly does too :-)
All right gang. Here's the scoop. Matt and I went to New Orleans May 4 to see Melissa Etheridge in concert at the House of Blues. It was awesome, to say the least. We got there at the club at 6:15 (we got in early b/c we had special tix) and she came out at 8:15. She was wearing a black T-shirt that said "The Clash" and a blue jean shirt (long sleeve) over it. Also, she wore, blue jeans and her black Converse tennis shoes. Matt and I were about 10 feet from her. We had no idea we would be that close b/c it was standing room only, and we didn't know how many we be there before us to get a better position at the stage. We got lucky! Did I just make a pun? Anyway, we took a sign that said "MLE is JANIS." We were the only ones with a sign I guess b/c it was an indoor event, no one thought they would be allowed; we thought the same thing. But we took it anyway to see if it would get her attention. So, we held up the sign after the 3rd song, "Secret Agent" and Melissa looked at us, pointed to the sign, and said, "Awe, thank you so much, that is so sweet." Later, we held it up again, and she made a sly grin and pointed at us. After the show, we were leaving and went to stand on the opposite side of street away from the crowd who was standing next to her bus. We were next to two black Lincoln Town Cars, and little did we know, one was waiting for HER. She came out (wearing a long sleeve black shirt with white writing on the sleeve, possibly the same shirt she wore on Oprah with Dolly) with Tammy (sorry, I can't for the life of me remember what Tammy had on, I just remember blonde hair and a big smile) and got into the car, and I showed my sign again, she did a thumbs up to me and she and Tammy waved at Matt and me along with two other people standing next to us!!!! How cool is that for a vacation????
Anyway, just wanted to share the fun with you guys. And wow, it seems unreal that it happened. It was ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Really, there are no words to accurately describe what I felt at the time. It was an experience of a lifetime.
Take care,
Shelly
