Hi Everyone,
My name is Sherry and I'm from Kansas. I have been a lurker for
a couple of years now and I really enjoy all the info I get from this list.
I had to come out of lurkdom to say a big THANK YOU to this list. I
was at the Kansas City show on August 8th and got a HANDSHAKE AND A HUG from
Melissa!!!!! I read all the posts and have been ignoring the set lists
as I wanted to be surprised.
What I didn't ignore was the reports that she opens her show by coming in from the audience. Well, when the lights went down and I could hear her start to sing, I told my hubby I would be right back and positioned myself so I could see her when she went by. Actually to my surprise, I was standing right in front of her right before she went down into the crowd. I said M-E-L-I-S-S-A...well, I probably screamed it (smile).
She smiled real big at me, shook my hand and gave me a hug kinda like she does when she says goodbye to her band members at the end of the show. I was on cloud nine for the rest of the night. She rocked for about 2 hours and talked about her new signs in Leavenworth, I wish I would have been there for the ceremony. I guess Tammy ran up on stage right before her, but I didn't see her since I was running back to my seat to tell my hubby about my good fortune. It was so cool that Tammy had on a KC Chiefs jersey for the entire show. I have been a Melissa fan since 88 when her debut album came out. It started because she is a local girl from Kansas.
THEN I saw her on the Grammy's doing 'Bring me some Water' and I was hooked. This was my 2nd Melissa show, but way far the best. There weren't very many people around that knew where she would show up when she started the show, so I was kind of by myself. I wouldn't have had this great experience if it wasn't for all of you on this list. I don't think I have come down yet. I was ready to follow her to Dallas the next night if I could have. I couldn't talk to her because she was still singing, but I didn't care. SHE LOOKED RIGHT AT ME. When everyone finally realized where she was, then the crowd came around, but I didn't care about that either.
I'm sorry this is so long, but I couldn't contain myself and again I had to say THANKS!!! My only disappointment was for her slow song on the piano, instead of 'The Weakness in Me', she played "Ready to Love" about her growing up in KS and what her dreams were then. I liked the song, but I really love TWIM. She had to get her lyric book out, but she did Shriner's Park since a big majority of the people knew where that park is. The best thing about seeing her in Kansas, is that we will always have a different show than anyone else because she is HOME. Keep all the great info coming.
By the way, did I say
thanks??? Melissa fan forever!
