Okay,
Boardies, please don't be mad at me but did I have a great experience last
night!
Randy and I had a friend who had an extra ticket really close to the stage
so we sort of shared it. While we were sitting there, Tammy and Melissa came
walking down the aisle, and got in their seats 2 rows behind us, in the next
section, 6 seats in. We were on the end. So, there they were, 20 feet away.
I said hi to Tammy and she looked a little shocked at first, but then said
hi. I looked at Melissa, and told her I was at Irvine, and it was great, and
thank you, and then I said I was Howard's nurse and did she remember me; she
said yes and smiled, and I again said thank you and bowed my head, and then
I left them alone!!!It was SO HARD! But there they were, all night long, I
could look at them whenever I wanted to. They were both in jeans and Tammy
had on that suede jacket with the fur collar. At one point she went to get
food and when she came back and was waiting to get in the aisle, I looked at
her again and caught her eye, and all I said was "You are so
beautiful." She smile back.
So, towards the end of the night, 6 seats opened right in front of them and
it took EVERYTHING in me to not go over there. But, she was there as a fan,
and I tried to remember that. She was really interesting too. She did not
sing along at all, and mostly looked like she was studying. Tammy was having
a really good time. When Bruce played Born In The USA electric, and Max was
really wailing on the drums, Melissa was just shaking her head back and
forth in amazement.
So, she did seem to enjoy Born To Run, but unfortunately did not join him
for Thunder Road. It's just as well; I probably would have passed out. ![]()
So, after the show, I just sort of sidled my way near them. I had notice
that Tammy was blowing her nose in some toilet paper. So, I went up to her,
tapped her on the shoulder, stuck out a package of tissues, and asked her if
she needed one. She smiled and said no, she was fine. I told her, look I
don't want to bother you guys, I just want you to know that I am very happy
for you both. She smiled again, and I told her I was a Boardie. Then she got
really animated and asked me my name. I told her, and she shook my hand and
said it was nice to meet me. At that point Melissa turned around, I again
mentioned Irvine and what a great show it was, and for some dumb reason I
had to mention Howard again, I don't know why, I didn't say thank you for
Skin, or anything intelligent, I was just so overwhelmed with emotion and I
kept thinking about Howard. I could tell that she wanted to be left alone,
but before I knew it, my friend Stephanie came up with a camera and asked
Melissa if she could get a picture of me and Melissa. Before Melissa could
even respond, I looked at her and Stephanie, and said, very strongly,
"no, I don't want to bother her." Melissa's face sort of shut
down, and she said no, and then said goodbye and turned her back. It was
okay, though, I said thank you and goodbye and walked away. After all, she
was there as a fan and it was not her show.
So, needless to say I am on cloud nine. Randy managed to get one picture of
them during the show, and one of me talking to Tammy, and he thinks that
Melissa may be in it.
All in all, it was the best concert experience of my life. Bruce was even
better than in Vegas; he rocked the house! And, I got to watch our hero all
night long.
I sincerely apologize that I did not think to send the Boardie's love to
them; please forgive me. Like I said, I thought of so many things to say
after.
I have to tell you, Tammy is the best ambassador Melissa could have! She was
so open and friendly, and seemed really happy to meet a Boardie.
So, Tammy, if you happen to read this, please know how much I appreciated
how gracious you were, and please apologize to Melissa that I was such a
dork! I was just very overcome with emotion and all I could think of was
this patient that introduced me to her music. Please tell her thank you for
Skin, and for singing Streets of Philadelphia, and for being such a great
role model to even the one person that looks at her and says hey, she's
okay, and so am I, and I don't have to kill myself now!
But mostly, thank you both for being so gracious to your fans, and for
giving so much of yourselves, your spirit, and your talent. I apologize if
we ever come across as wanting to know too much about you, or getting in
your space. There are just so many people who you have affected so
profoundly and we want you to know how much it means to us.
Lastly, I hope you both had a GREAT time last night! My two favorite artists
in the same room! Melissa, if Bruce is your hero, you are many others', and
I rank you neck and neck for me. I hope you take that as the compliment in
which I give it.
Okay, Boardies, thanks for letting me share, and good night all,
Love, the Happiest Bruce/Melissa fan in the world!
